Sell your domain name for maximum value

Do you have a domain portfolio? Are your domain names parked and making you no money? If you answer yes to any of these questions then you may need to consider developing your domain names. You would be surprised at how many people register domain or domain names and then totally forget about them. This can be very costly in today's internet world. The future of internet marketing rests in blogs, their content, their page rank and their traffic. Once you hit these with positive numbers hold on to your seat because you just may make some incredible money. If you would like to promote your domain name or learn more you can call searchmarketing at 602 325 2806 and ask for Mark Mearin. I believe we may have seen the peak of the value of the current domain market.
I think the value of the premium domains these days, primarily single word generic dot-com’s, have seen their peak and will begin a steady decline from here.
First, the recession is going to hit this bubble market hard enough. The market was bid up by speculators and while the true bid prices may be within +/- 30% of the current levels, there is not enough size or volume there to support the market.
Second, domains are slowly being antiquated. Direct navigation is slowly disappearing as the URL gets more and more hidden in browsers and as browsers offer search optimized suggestions within the URL drop-down as opposed to alphabetical results. There is also the natural education of Internet users to navigate in a more sophisticated manner, such as a search engine or portal rather than direct navigation.
Third, search engines are becoming smarter and sending more traffic to the best solution to a search. Google is sending traffic to Brands, Wolfram Alpha is supposed to answer you questions, and Bing is trying to combine the two. It is harder for the pikers to drive traffic toward their generic domains just on links, mediocre content, and the search term in the domain name.
Lastly, I believe the Internet is moving in a different direction. I explained this in “Real-Time Web“, but basically, I think there are more applications and methods of finding information coming about (ie. Twitter) that are going to slow the use of domains for Internet information.
I do not think domains are going anywhere anytime soon. Solid sites built on great domain names will continue to thrive. But their natural value, without a solid business behind them, has peaked. Information has slowly begun to move outside of the browser.

How to Do a Cheap Domain Name Registration

When you have a cheap domain name, the next thing you think about is how to get a cheap domain name registration. But, if you have trouble getting that cheap domain name, you need to make sure you get the right information that will guide you to landing on a very good and cheap domain name. Firstly, it is good to establish what exactly is a domain name and why exactly it is important. When you want to have a website, you must come up with an address or a name that you can use to refer to your site. The name is called a domain name. You can get the name from companies which are licensed to offer the service. What you get from these companies is the registration service and you get to invent your own name. When you come up with a name and find that it is already taken, you can buy already existing domain names from domain name resellers. They are people or companies who own the names in bulk and are willing to offer them to the public at a price. Therefore, you can search your ideal domain name and get a good offer for it. This good offer is the cheap domain name. This market is a bit unregulated and demand for a particular domain name determines the price. But, before you even think of a cheap domain name registration, make sure that the name is appropriate or suitable for its function. There are several things that you need to consider while choosing a cheap domain name and they include the following.Firstly, let the name be short and clear. Nothing beats simplicity and if possible, cut all the technical details and let people identify with a name they can pronounce and remember. Let your business aspect come out from the cheap domain name. There are names that you hear about and they totally have no connection with the kind of business they represent. It is not easy to choose a name that meets these qualifications in an almost perfect way but, the secret is real simple. It is taking time and not rushing the process of cheap domain name registration. Many people get some of the best ideas after taking time to think about it. Buying and Selling Domains - How the Business of Names Can Help You Earn Profits

So you're ready to get a website live on the Net, eh? And you have the perfect business name, right? Well, now it's time to secure a meaningful and relevant domain name for your new website.
Domain name registration can be as simple as naming your business, or as difficult as naming your child. You want a domain name that's similar to, and ideally matches your business name. It needs to be as short and sweet as possible. Of course, most of the short domain names are already registered. But, there is no need to toss in the towel. You can still find a relevant domain name for your business.
Where do you begin? You perhaps don't consider yourself an internet guru, but you know that without a domain name, you can't have a website. A quick search on Google or MSN for the keywords "domain name" or "domain registration" will return a plethora of sites literally begging you to register your new domain name with them. Which one should you go with? Let me help you.
I've been developing websites for years for businesses and organizations around the United States. I've tested domain name and web hosting companies from California to North Carolina. Some are excellent in what they do, while others are downright unprofessional. And, I always kept coming back to one company . . . GoDaddy.com
GoDaddy.com is arguably the best web hosting and domain name registrar available anywhere in the world. I currently have about 350 domain names registered through them. They are inexpensive, trustworthy, and professional. Moreover, they have 24/7 live phone support. In addition, GoDaddy.com offers plenty of free features when you host your website with them. The first indication of this is a $1.99 domain name if you purchase one of their already low-cost, feature-rich hosting plans to go with that domain name. You're going to need a hosting account anyway if you want to see your website live on the Net. So, why not keep it in the same place as your domain name?
What's in a Name?
What name should you choose? You've no doubt heard that the shorter the domain name, the better. It will be easier for people to remember, and more importantly, easier to physically "type" from the keyboard. It should reflect your business name, contain nothing but letters or numbers, and absolutely should be a .com or .org name. The length of your domain name can vary.
You will probably find it difficult to register your domain name since it may already be taken. In this case, if you can't keep it short, try to keep it simple. For example, if you want to register the domain, "xyzrealtor.com" (where xyz represents the name of your business), you may find that it was registered by someone else long ago. Instead of adding a dash, like www.xyz-realtor.com, add an "s" to the end, like www.xyzrealtors.com.
You can even just spell out your business using a combination of your name and the type of business you have, like www.smithrealtors.com. If that doesn't work, add "inc" to the end of your preferred domain name, like www.smithrealtorsinc.com (if you are incorporated, of course). But, the most important element in securing a good domain name is that it must be short, and it must be simple to remember.
If your business is called, Ernie's Fabulous Emporium of Recycling and Waste Management Processing, Inc., you will clearly want to try to find a domain name such as "Ernies.com" or "ErniesRecycling.com". Choosing a domain name that has your physical name combined with your primary purpose of business is always better than a 10-syllable domain name.
Another route would be to choose a .Org name. Ideally you should be a non-profit organization before you use the .Org extension. But that hasn't kept ordinary people from registering a domain name with the .org extension.
Never use the .Net, (extension) unless you have a very popular keyword or phrase. Most are already taken, of course, so you will have a tough time in securing any of them anyway. Many search engines consider .Net domain names as link farms. Unless you will be updating your website with useful content on a regular basis, stay away from .Net.
Many people believe it's important to buy up all the possible domain name/extension combinations. I think it is usually a waste of money. If you have a trademarked business name and it is a quite popular business you are running, it may make since to register all possible extensions with your domain name. But, if you are just starting out and don't expect to turn millions of dollars your first year in business, I would recommend you bypass offers for the other extensions.
How to Register
To register your domain name means to "secure" it for your personal or professional use. You can usually register it for up to 10 years, but I would recommend no more than a couple of years. If you like what you have, and your website is providing a return that's of use to you, then you can always add more years to your account.

Who would have thought that money could be made from names? With the advent of the Internet, industry regulars slowly realized the gold mine sitting literally under their fingertips in the form of domain names. These days, buying and selling domains has become a real business, with some highly sought-after names selling for five-digit figures. The domain name ClearDay.com, for example, reportedly sold for $60,000 while Mercury.com made a lot more -- $700,000. Think there's a market out there for your domain name? Here's how you, too, can make money from a name:Find domains that you can sell later on.Generally, people who buy or 'grab' domain names don't really have industry-specific monikers in mind. If you like jewelry, for example, you don't have to stick to buying domains such as PreciousGems4U.com or SparklingJewelries.net. You can pretty much pick any name that strikes your fancy and then buy it.However, paying for names that won't sell later will considerably drill a hole in your pocket if you're not careful. You could buy dozens of names for a small fee but if you're not going to use them or can't sell them later, what's the point of grabbing them, right?Do a search on domains that have a potential or those that have shown some sort of following in the past few months. Use the Alexa toolbar to find out which domains or sites are these. Look for names that have registered a minimum of 1,500 to 2,000 hits 30 to 60 days prior to your search. If you're willing to pay more, look for domains that have registered five-figure hits because that's an assurance that these domains already have a strong following. You can either sell the domains back to their former owners or have interested parties bid on them. Either way, you'll profit from your efforts.Automatically bid on domains. You can't always spend hours online searching for domains to buy. Try online grabbing systems that let you automatically bid on domains you're interested in. Sites such as Pool.com and Snapnames.com are just two of these sites. You'll pay them a fee if they successfully grab the name on your behalf.Get your domain name listed. Before you can sell your domain, you have to be registered. That's how you can be 'legally' recognized. Getting the name registered also bestows upon you the right to claim it and if you so wish, sell it later.Registering a domain name may be done for a limited period of time, usually as short as 12 months to as long as 10 years. Beyond the chosen period, the registration expires and you can choose to renew it and continue to claim ownership over it. Or, you can choose not to; at which point the domain name will be made available to another buyer. This is where you can sell the domain.Register a potentially valuable domain. Many people scour popular shows and events to try to find out which personalities, events or gadgets are developing a following. If you've been watching shows such as American Idol, for example, and you check out sites that register domains, you'll find a few that are familiar. This is because some people will try to register a name of some rising star who will potentially become famous enough to want to build his own website someday. Since his name is already registered, he will want to buy it back and thus earn the investor a nice profit. If you don't mind speculating, this may be a good route to take. Just remember, though that it can go either way in which the domain name gets sold or it gets ignored.Build traffic to your domain. If you want to take this route and build your domain from scratch, prepare to work. If you have a domain name that you created by yourself or bought, you need to make it valuable to potential investors. Offer high quality content, build a reputation, link up with quality sites, allow your visitors to interact using your website. Once you start appearing on major search engines' radar and gain a good following, you raise the value of your website and your domain. When the time is ripe, you can then sell that domain for a nice, fat profit.
Domain names, if you haven't heard, are the next "real estate" boom. While law firms have made up a small sector of the Internet up until now, domain name ownership is very big business. And like condos in the early 2000s, there are many speculators looking to buy up domain names and flip them for a profit when someone wants their little piece of real estate.
This speculation game is very relevant to the new lawyer (and seasoned lawyer) because now, more than ever, domain name selection has got to be part of your short- and long-term marketing plan, as well as a slice of your operating expenses.
And this real estate is no longer limited to domain names. Now you must protect your real estate in social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Failure to secure your name on these social media sites can be costly as you may find others impersonating you or pirating your following.
You might be thinking: "I don't know what kind of law I want to practice or what the future holds."
From a dollar and cents perspective this doesn't matter. If you even think you want to practice personal injury law in Connecticut, spend the $8.99 or $9.99 for one year and secure domain(s) which reflect the practice area and the state or county. (It has been proven wise to enter a geographical designation in your domain name.) Consider the language of your clients when describing why they need legal services and be creative with domain names, too. For example: (I don't know if they exist, just blue-skying) IneedawillinWaterbury.com; cantpaymybillsinBristol.com. Clever URLs also act as advertising on business cards, sponsorship banners and more.
If you ultimately want to let the domain lapse in a year because your location or practice area has changed, don't renew. But plan for realistic eventualities in your future and be creative.
And certainly protect your personal name because nothing is worse than building up your credibility and people are now searching for you by name and someone else owns the domain name and it is redirected to a gambling or a porn site. (Are there issues of cybersquatting when someone buys your name and can you sue? Sure. But the point is, avoid the issue today for a few dollars rather than buying your name back for thousands of dollars or initiating a lawsuit that will cost even more to pursue.)
Tip No. l: When you start searching for URLs, don't do it on a site like GoDaddy. Do it in Google. Why? When you decide on names you want to purchase and are available, then go to a purchasing site and be prepared to purchase right then and there. I have heard too many stories where the person goes back to the purchasing site, even 10 minutes later, and the domain has been purchased. I'm not sure how the mechanism is triggered, but why risk it when there is ample opportunity to do your homework on Google?
Tip No. 2: If you buy several domain names, spend the extra money and have them all redirected to your main URL. Why? When you buy a domain you are not using, the host will park it for free but set it up as an advertising page. This stinks. Pay the money for the redirect until such time as you use or release the URL. If in the future you want to redirect a specific domain to another site or a different landing page on your main website or blog, you can do so.
Buy your domain real estate now. You'll be happy you invested.•

What Everybody Ought to Know About Info Domains

A .info domain is a generic TLD , which stands for top level domain. The .info extension stands for .information and they were developed to be used for information websites. The domain is used for many purposes since there is no restriction on its use like .edu and .gov TLD. The .info domain was part of the ICANN release of new domains in 2000. It was meant to be an alternative option to the traditional domains, like the .com, .org, and .net, which were becoming over crowded. The .info TLD has a reputation of being used by black hat SEOs to generate spam sites. This does not mean all .info domain websites are spam, but many spammers use .info domains due to their low cost. They're able to buy hundreds or thousands of domains at a fraction of the cost of .com domains. Since spammers work high volume for success, .info domains a strong option. The domain has been highly successful. The .info TLD has millions of registrations. One great benefit of the .info domain is that it is usually cheaper than a .com domain. During the early summer of 2008, Godaddy provided a sale where .info domains were sold for 99 cents.Recently the 99 cent .info domain sale at Godaddy changed the domain landscape. Spammers purchased thousands of domains during the sale and Google was flooded with .info spam sites. Although Google does not admit to treating various .tld differently, Internet marketers started to see an effect on Google's treatment of .info domains. Google seemed to raise the bar a little for .info. Many .info domains were having a hard time with indexing and rankings. Google seemed to be treating these domains differently in an attempt to slow down spammers. This change has be seen by those running .info BANS sites. BANS is a store script called Build A Niche Store and can be used to promote the eBay affiliate program. Many Internet marketers have had a difficult time getting their .info BANS to index and rank. The change seems to be in response to the hundreds of BANS sites flooding SERPS using .info domains. Those who ran their .info domains as thin affiliate sites were having the most problems. The .info domain is a solid option for anyone wanting to create an informative site or who needs a cheap domain. The domain does have a spam reputation, so extra effort will need to be made to prove the site is legit. As long as your .info is not spam, it will see the same level of success as a website on any other top level domain.Justin Briggs runs a blog about SEO and Internet Marketing that provides a Search Engine Optimization guide that teachs basic SEO lessons.Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Justin_Briggs

Why Free Domain Parking Services Are Costly

Free domain parking services are essentially services which will host your parked domains for no charge. Initially this can seem like a very inviting idea. They say they will generate all the advertisements and forward you the revenue generated from clicks. More often than not such free services will not allude to the actual percentage of revenue you will get back from the parked domain, and for good reason. Why Free Domain Parking? Some at this point may be asking why the services are offered for free? Generally they are large sites which will sell a variety of other products apart from domain parking which will generate enough revenue in themselves. Further to this they will take a significant cut of the revenue earned from each site- somewhere between 20% - 50%! Now imagine if your site was generating a mediocre $10 per day. That would equate to approximately $100 to $150 of lost earnings every single month - not an insignificant amount at all.Furthermore free domain parking services rarely offer the ability to create fresh content- normally it is essentially a site filled with links. Such 'link farms' have very little weight in the eyes of Google, and the traffic such sites receive is normally minimal and undesirable.Paid Domain ParkingPaid domain parking services are normally provided by sites which specialize in this only. If it is a reputable site this is a distinct advantage as the level of service will be greater than a free site. Normally if you are paying for domain parking, you should also be credited with 100% of the revenue generated via your domain name.Further to this paid services should offer the auto-creation of fresh content which is optimized for the search engines. The advertisements such as Google Adsense should be imbedded in the content and not obviously stand out as ads. This will serve to ensure the domain name receives higher levels of qualified and quality traffic.ConclusionFree domain parking services can seem enticing at first, however you will be losing significant amounts of revenue over time - specifically if you have chosen quality domain names and are looking to park more than 5-10 domain names. Paid domain parking offers the ability to create a long term reliable source of income which will receive higher amounts of relevant traffic.Interested in a quality domain parking service which will allow you to generate traffic and revenue from your unused domain names? What is Public Domain?

Whatever it is you're looking for you may have struck gold by arriving at this website.Yes, works including books, software, photographs, music, images, maps, movie clips, and much more are to be discovered, and more importantly, are there for the taking - from the Public Domain.Whatever it is you are looking for, it is highly likely that you will find it in the relatively unknown world of "The Public Domain."So what is "Public Domain?"Public Domain as its name implies, refers to works that belong to the public. That means, anyone is free to use them in any which way they like. More technically, it means works that have been created, and are not protected by copyright (for whatever reason). The more obvious works that are not copyright are the complete works of Shakespeare, Dickens, and the music of Mozart and Beethoven. But there is much, much more than that. To understand what is, and what is not, Public Domain - you need to know what copyright means.Copyright means that the owner of the work created has certain rights. These rights include the right to freely make copies of the work, the right to sell the work, and the right to adapt the work into anything. The reason for copyright is so that no-one can come along and just "take" the work and use it for gain or profit. Should that happen, the owner of the copyright can sue for losses. And there are many such cases. Now here's the juicy bit. Works are not covered by copyright indefinitely. Copyright does expire. And it is these works that then fall into the Public Domain.Works created today are covered by copyright for a good 70 years after the creators death. So there's no point hanging around for anything modern to fall into the Public Domain. What is of interest to us are works that were never copyrighted at all, or works that have entered the Public Domain.Such works can be freely copied, sold and made into Derivative Works. It is the making of Derivative Works that offers the greatest potential. But first, you need to understand a few basics.Works enter the Public Domain for several reasons. The main reason is that the copyright has expired, other reasons are:The work was published before there even was any copyright protection, e.g. the works of Shakespeare. The copyright owner "gave" the work to the Public Domain, e.g. some computer software is donated this wayCopyright protection was lostThe work was never entitled to copyright protectionAs a rough guide, works published in the United States before 1923 are in the Public Domain. Works created between 1923 and 1963 (inclusive) may be in the Public Domain.Copyright Law has seen many changes. The Berne Convention (1976 but not effective until 1978) effectively got rid of "common law" copyright which was essentially a state run system protecting all unpublished works whilst, published works were protected by federal laws. All copyright is now protected by federal law. Now, works published between 1923 and 1963 had to have their copyright renewed (under the old laws) in the 28th. year after publication. And the reason so many works fall into the Public Domain during this period is because most creators of the works simply forgot to renew in the 28th year, or their families did if the originators were already deceased. What this meant was that if a work was published in 1923 the copyright had to be renewed in the year 1951 (or thereabouts). If the creator, or his representative, failed to renew in a timely manner, then the work automatically fell into the Public Domain. If the work was renewed, then this protected the works for a further 47 years, making a total of 75 years (28 + 47).So, a work published in 1923 and renewed in 1951 was due to fall into the Public Domain by 1923 + 28 + 47 = 1999.But, certain copyright holders were edgy at the prospect of their work becoming free to use so early. In fact, a work published in 1930 would be entering the Public Domain by 31st. December 2005. Just imagine great literary works and great movies published in the 1930's being available. But, this is not so because......Copyright law was tweaked again. This time the Sony Bono Copyright Extension Law added a further 20 years to all copyrights. This effectively meant that anything published in 1923 will now not enter the Public Domain until 2019. And anything published in 1924 not until 2020. And so on.Who's to say that copyright law will not be extended again to protect these works? Does it matter? Yes and no.If you want a specific topic, say something published by Walt Disney, then yes it will matter, but there is a whole mountain of stuff already in the Public Domain right now.And this is what you should be looking for.Rich pickings!"Interested in knowing more about creating your own digital portfolio? How to Buy Cheap Domain Names That Will Get a Lot of Web Traffic - Are Domain Auctions For You?

Having a hard time getting just the right domain name for your website? Well you are not alone. Since the drop in price of domain names it can be very difficult to find the domain name that fits your business. No matter what your reason is for having a website, it is important to have a domain name that not only can be remembered but one that is also better for the searches people will be doing in search engines like Google.Well you can look for what is available under dot.com names but I highly doubt you will find what you are looking for there. Even many dot.net domain names are difficult to get. So what is the better solution.Give domain auctions a shot. Even in the late 90's business investors were gobbling up domain names so that they could sell them for more. Well, lately even the casual online venture capitalist has purchased domain names merely so they can sell them. This may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a great domain name, you can try bidding on one at a domain auction website. So why is this a great idea? Why not just pick up some cheap dot.info domain name? There are several reasons. For one, .info names can be targeted by search engines like Google as spam sites and can easily be de-indexed and no longer appear when people search for them. This can pretty much cripple your business if it depends heavily on volumes of traffic. Also, it's a great idea because not only will you be buying a shorter name with .com at the end, and one that is easy to remember, but you will be buying a domain name that possibly has been around for a while. Why is this important. Websites that have been around for a while usually rank higher in Google. There are some that will be a domain name on an auction and then find that right off the bat they are getting loads of traffic, simply because it has been in the database for so long. There are many kinds of domain names you can bid on in an auction. You can buy .com, .net, .biz, .ca, .us and many more. The cost of these domain names can range from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars, depending on the popularity of that word or term in the search engines. You see, say the domain name you bid on is "buywidgets".com If a lot of people are searching for the term "buy widgets" in Google than you are going to get a lot of traffic from those searches on your website because they regard your domain name as high importance. A great domain name can make or break your business so choose wisely. I would even suggest looking on a domain auction site before naming your business because you might get some great ideas for a domain name or even build your entire business around this perfect domain name that you found online.Bid wisely and enjoy that perfect domain name that you can take pride in actually winning. Remember, you can bid on domain names at Buydomainauctions.com.http://www.buydomainauctions.com

Choosing and Registering Your Website Domain Name

You need to carefully consider how your domain name will affect your future search engine rankings and user friendliness. It is very important to know exactly what your website is going to do for you.Should your domain name be your company name?It is usually a good idea to go for a for a domain name that represents the type of product or industry you operate in. If your company is Jones & Smith Ltd and you are accountants you then have the choice of "jones-and-smith.co.uk", or "expert-accountants.co.uk" . How do you choose an effective name? This is a name that is going to be connected with your business forever so it is important to make sure you are 100% happy with your choice. The older a website, the more credibility it has within the search engines, so you cannot afford to come back later and change it!A domain name should be relevant and easy to remember. It should reflect the keywords of the industry it operates in. A sensible and pertinent choice, like "expert-accountants.co.uk" is great. There is a balance, in fact it has been suggested that Google prefer two-word domains, and we would certainly not recommend more than three. If your business only covers a certain geographic area, it might be useful to include that in your name - instead of "best-plumber.co.uk", your domain could be "best-plumber-dorset.co.uk".This would greatly improve your rankings within your local area. but do think carefully about future expansion.Should those keywords be hyphenated or not?It is important where a string could become tricky to spell (i.e: "yellow-widgets.co.uk" is easier than "yellowwidgets.co.uk"). Also, be careful that you choose words that are easy and unambiguous to spell and understand - optimization/optimisation; program/programme - your searchers have a 50% chance of getting it wrong!Which domain extension is right for you - .co.uk .com .net ?This can be a bit confusing, as there are more and more extensions appearing all the time. Partly you are limited to what is available, and it's not a bad idea to have a look at who owns the others, then you need to consider carefully if your business focus is a certain geographic area. A website ending in .co.uk is seen by Google to be based in the UK. It will therefore feature more strongly in searches in the UK. A .com extension is viewed as international and will not feature as highly in a UK wide search. The .co.uk extension is no longer the only way of being recognized as a UK website, .uk.com is an alternate domain for the United Kingdom, and extensions such as .org.uk and .me.uk could also be used. Have a look at what's available to you. Also, bear in mind that the physical location of your hosting company will impact on this. If your hosting company is based in Germany, your website (and therefore your business!) may well be seen as being based in Germany, particularly if you use a .com extension.Should you try and buy all the extensions for your domain? If you can afford it, why not, simply to prevent anyone else from buying them - but be careful, you could end up owning a lot of unnecessary websites. A lot of UK companies try to buy both the .com and the .co.uk. If your site is well designed and well optimized, it will attract visitors regardless of other similarly named sites! How do you register your website domain name?Your hosting company should be able to register your domain name for you, and it is probably best to keep it all together if you can. Domains are registered for either one or two years (usually two), and then need to be renewed. Your hosting and registration company should remind you when your domain is due for renewal, but you can always check yourself by using http://www.whois-search.com/whois/.Always check that you will own the domain name, as some domain registrars will insist on having control over the domains they register. Registration can take up to a couple of day before your site appears online. Your site will be "parked" until a web server has hosted it, and will then appear with a "site under construction" page until you have created a website with content.Have you considered your future business plans?Although your domain name should reflect the keywords most relevant to you, be careful that you have left yourself scope to expand your business. You may have a site called "website-hosting.co.uk". Great - except the internet opens up and you want to add website advertising packages. Then you expand and you want to sell website design. Suddenly, your domain name is inappropriate and does not reflect your full range of services. Maybe "internet-marketing.co.uk" would have been a better idea in the first place. This is also relevant if you include a town or county in your name and then decide to move or expand to other towns or counties. Is it easier to buy an existing expired domain name? There are two possible reasons you may want to do this:The domain name you want is already registered but is available for sale - be sure you are paying a fair price and that you are buying it outrightYou are impatient and want a website that already has a page rank. This used to be a "back-door" to quicker page ranking, but Google have become wise to it, and any page rank or search engine "goodwill" that you think you are buying will be lost as soon as the name is purchased. If you do buy an existing domain, try to change as few details as possible i.e: keep the same hosting company, domain registrar etc. thus appearing as part of a total business transfer and not just a domain sale.Remember, no-one has yet got rich registering and selling domain names. The value prescribed to a domain rests largely with the content .Summary.A website is a vital marketing tool for all businesses! Choosing a domain name for your website is just the first of many equally important decisions you will need to make before your website becomes a reality. Domain Names and Domain Name Importance

The host name or the name which can identify one computer on the internet from the other is called the domain name of that computer or computers. The domain names which are registered with the registrar are called as registered ones. These domain names are the property of the business which has registered these names. Some of the domain names are considered to be of the top level. These domain names include.com and .edu. These names are considered to be better domain names than others. Some times people consider that the domain names are actually the web addresses of the websites we are talking about, but this is not true. The domain names and the web site addresses are two different things. If you want your domain name to be helpful to your business, it needs to be something related to your website. If, for example, your website is related to selling information regarding foreclosures, foreclosurehere.com can be a good name. This name will be search engine friendly as well and thus the chances of getting more traffic will increase. While choosing a domain name you should keep in mind the way your potential customers can search the web. They may not always search the web while using a very proper key word. If your domain name is the right one, it will be picked up by the search engine.Domain names are important to the success of a website. If the domain name is related to what the website is all about, the chances of getting more traffic increase as in that case the domain name will be more search engine friendly. Keeping this in mind you need to choose your domain name with care.

Free Domain Name Searches

Quite often freebies of different kinds are offered on the Internet. In fact, though, very few of them are really free. Those making the offer will more often than not expect something in return.Under normal circumstances, you have to pay some amount of money to get your domain name registered. Recently however some companies are offering free domain names. In return, they may require customers to add banner ads to their websites or to participate in other marketing schemes. The provider of the free domain is in most cases likely to remain the owner of the domain. Among the defunct companies that offered free domain names were NameZero and Freeservers (a subsidiary of NetZero at present).Belgium is one European country that offers free domains in the .be TLD. Perhaps part of a temporary promotion, there could well be a renewal fee eventually for the registrants to maintain their domains. But compared to other offers, there are relatively few that offer you free domains when you sign up for an offer. It may be because the costs of these services or products are too low to deserve much interest. There indeed are a few free domain offers on the net, but they expect you either to buy hosting or to sign up and post at forums. But remember, most web hosting companies will register the 'free' domain in their own name. If you are annoyed due to some reason or the other and want to change the web host, you lose the domain name. That means all the hard work you put in to develop the brand image goes up in smoke. However, it is not exactly an intelligent move to refuse a free domain name if there is no catch involved. You can find about free domain names from various databases through various Web sites.Domain Name Search provides detailed information on Domain Name Search, Australian Domain Name Searches, Free Domain Name Searches, Domain Name Owner Search and more. Domain Name Search is affiliated with Cheap Domain Names For Sale.

Domain Name System

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical naming system for computers, services, or any resource participating in the Internet. It associates various information with domain names assigned to such participants. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical (binary) identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices world-wide. An often used analogy to explain the Domain Name System is that it serves as the "phone book" for the Internet by translating human-friendly computer hostnames into IP addresses. For example, www.example.com translates to 208.77.188.166.
The Domain Name System makes it possible to assign domain names to groups of Internet users in a meaningful way, independent of each user's physical location. Because of this, World-Wide Web (WWW) hyperlinks and Internet contact information can remain consistent and constant even if the current Internet routing arrangements change or the participant uses a mobile device. Internet domain names are easier to remember than IP addresses such as 208.77.188.166 (IPv4) or 2001:db8:1f70::999:de8:7648:6e8 (IPv6). People take advantage of this when they recite meaningful URLs and e-mail addresses without having to know how the machine will actually locate them.
The Domain Name System distributes the responsibility of assigning domain names and mapping those names to IP addresses by designating authoritative name servers for each domain. Authoritative name servers are assigned to be responsible for their particular domains, and in turn can assign other authoritative name servers for their sub-domains. This mechanism has made the DNS distributed, fault tolerant, and helped avoid the need for a single central register to be continually consulted and updated.
In general, the Domain Name System also stores other types of information, such as the list of mail servers that accept email for a given Internet domain. By providing a world-wide, distributed keyword-based redirection service, the Domain Name System is an essential component of the functionality of the Internet.
Other identifiers such as RFID tags, UPC codes, International characters in email addresses and host names, and a variety of other identifiers could all potentially utilize DNS [1].

free domain name regestration

Even if a domain registrar charges $0.00 for your domain name, there is still an ICANN fee. The registrar can pay that for you, but I doubt they would do that. You can obtain a free non-traditional TLD (.tk instead of .com) at the URL below. If you ever choose to purchase your web hosting instead of using your own server, you would want to read their terms and conditions. Most will offer a free domain with their service, but will lock it to their service and forbid you to transfer it to another registrar, or make you pay high renewal fees.
purchase comes with free "WhoIs" privacy guard which would cost you an extra $8.99 on GoDaddyAlso includes:Free Email Forwarding Free URL ForwardingA Customizable Parking Page, plus others.Use the coupon code DREAMTIME for more discounts.
lot of people own domain names without websites. You just need to go to a registar service that sells them. The biggest player in the game is Network Solutions, but they are usually more expensive. GoDaddy.com is a great service and has great prices, it is what I register my domains with. When ordering, just make sure you do a DOMAIN REGISTRATION and don't add any other service (GoDaddy will try to sell you TONS of add-ons). When you are ready to start the website, then you can look into hosting services and the extra services. If you still have trouble online, pickup the phone and call them, they have good sales support. Beware the "up-sales" though
The Domain Name System also defines the technical underpinnings of the functionality of this database service. For this purpose it defines the DNS protocol, a detailed specification of the data structures and communication exchanges used in DNS, as part of the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP). The DNS protocol was developed and defined in the early 1980s and published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (cf. History) source wikipedia

park your domain name

you’ve spent much time registering domains, or reading about the industries that have sprung up around them, you’ve probably come across the concept at some point. So how does it work?A parked domain is one which has been bought and then used to display a single page. At its simplest, a parked domain could point to an ‘under construction’ page. You could even fit it out with an early-90s throwback roadworks sign for that retro feel.A domain is usually parked in this way when the owner is planning to use it for something, but just hasn’t got round to it yet. Domain parking is also sometimes used to protect a brand name - usually the owner of the brand will redirect the parked domain to their main website (so yourbrand.co.uk might redirect to yourbrand.com).How do people make money from it?Many domain names are parked in a way which generates cash for the owner. The revenue usually comes from adverts which are displayed on the parked domain’s page. Each time an advert gets clicked on, the owner of the domain receives a small payment. That’s fine, but where do the visitors come from?If you run a website, you’ll know that it can be difficult to attract visitors to begin with. That’s because when a domain name is registered for the first time, it doesn’t have any online history. There aren’t any pages for the domain listed in Google, and people can’t type the domain straight into their browser, because they don’t know that it even exists. To get round this problem, the people who want to generate meaningful revenue with parked domains look for specific types of domains to exploit:•Recently dropped domains. These are domain names which a previous owner has allowed to expire. Because they’ve been registered previously, they often have an established history in Google, and potentially some residual ‘type-in traffic’ (visitors who know the site and type the domain name straight into their web browser). A recent report found lots of expired domains get re-registered in less than ten seconds. Many of them will be used for domain parking.•Generic domain names. It’s surprising how many people type a word into the address bar of their web browser when looking for information. If you own a domain name containing a generic word or term (it could be computers.com, holidays.co.uk or anything really) then you might be surprised to see how much type-in traffic it gets.•Domain names containing typos. This one’s controversial and definitely towards the shadier end of domain parking. We’ve covered it before. Essentially, people register domain names that are very similar to other words or brands. They’re usually a misspelt word or brand name. It can be unpleasant if you’re the target of this sort of ‘typo-squatting’, but judging from the amount of it going on, there’s money to be made from it.The clever stuffIn truth, I’ve barely scraped the surface of domain parking here. You should have a handle on the basics now, but in practice, there are lots of clever things domain owners do with parked domains to maximise the revenue they generate. For a start, many of the services that insert ads onto pages are context-sensitive. That means they look at words used in the domain name and on the page, and then display adverts they think will be relevant. This targeted advertising can boost the click rate significantly, because people who arrive at the parked page find the adverts relevant. Some parked pages offer a search option. This usually displays adverts as results. Again, when a visitor clicks, the domain owner gets a cut. This works well because the parked page invites the user to enter exactly what they’re looking for, making it easier to show targeted adverts. How much can you make? There’s lots of hype surrounding domain parking, and if you hunt around you’ll soon encounter claims of huge returns. While this may be possible for very generic domain names (something like cruises.co.uk, which isn’t currently parked, but did exchange hands for £560,000 last year), the truth is that most parked domains will produce rather less-impressive returns.Having said that, they can provide a steady stream of income. Parking a domain you’re not using can be a good way to make it pay its way, and if you pick your domain names carefully, you can see a good rate of return.

Option For All Dedicated Server Plans By Web Host Superb Internet Adds

In a move that is sure to shake up the industry, web host Superb Internet (www.superb.net) has extended its lease-to-own program to all its dedicated servers.
Superb lets customers pay a small lease to own fee for a year, then they own the hardware outright while the monthly fee is reduced to a minimal colocation fee, saving the customers thousands of dollars over the life-time of the server.
"We understand that in tough economic times customers are looking for more and more value, and we believe this is one of the best deals out there," Superb Internet senior product manager William Song said in a statement. "This represents a paradigm shift in the relationship between customer and web host, offering much more transparency in the billing practices. At other web hosts customers are typically forced to pay outrageous ongoing monthly fees for hardware that is often 3 to 4 years old."
Previously only offered on the Superb's high-end and custom line of dedicated servers, this program is particularly well-suited to large partners and resellers who often have hundreds or thousands of servers. By owning all their servers after one year of service, resellers can significantly reduce their ongoing monthly costs, letting them put that money toward growing their businesses.
"With the Superb lease-to-own program customers always know that they have paid off their hardware after year one, and the low ongoing fees simply represent, space, power, AC, support, and bandwidth among other costs," Song said. "If customers wish to upgrade their server they can do so at wholesale rates, and if they decide to leave they can have the server shipped to them, because they own it! Compare that to most companies where customers end up paying thousands of dollars more (many times the cost of the server hardware) and end up with nothing when they cancel."

HostGator Web Hosting Review

Hostgator was started in 2002 and is now a top-ranked shared hosting company. They rank consistently high in user reviews and on web hosting review sites. What seems to make Hostgator stand out from the rest of the shared hosting services is their high level of customer support and satisfaction. Apparently the president of the company, Brent Oxley, might even be the one to personally handle the problem if it can't be resolved by customer support services.Another aspect to this web hosting service that makes them so popular is that they are joining the corporate trend to go "green". Hostgator is the first hosting service to take this step by pledging to buy 130% of their power usage in energy credits. This will only help to boost their acceptance among today's eco-friendly web users.Hostgator currently offers three hosting service plans, and all are Linux-based platforms. The single site customer can choose the Hatchling plan for $6.95 a month. This plan provides 1 domain with 350 GB of space and 3000 GB of bandwidth. For customers who use more than 1 domain, the Baby plan and the Swamp plan offer unlimited domain support. The Baby plan provides 600 GB of space and 6000 GB of bandwidth for $9.95 a month, and the Swamp plan offers unlimited bandwidth and 1000 GB of space for just $14,95 a month.Although Hostgator only offers Linux platforms at this time, they are reportedly planning to offer Windows-based hosting very soon. They offer the cPanel feature, which is known to be the best control panel going, along with the Fantastico script installer which will support nearly all of the open scripts available with a minimum of clicks.Of course, e-mail applications are very important features of any web hosting service. The Hatchling plan provides twenty POP3 accounts, while the others offer unlimited POP3 accounts. This is another feature which only raises the bar for customer satisfaction. The touchstone of any web hosting service is their server capacity. Hostgator uses state-of-the-art Dual Xeon servers at their data centers in Dallas, otherwise known as the Planet. These data centers can handle the traffic, because they are connected to ten backbone providers for constant flow. Although any web hosting service will claim a 99.9% uptime, Hostgator can actually guarantee it.In an independent test online, Hostgator was assessed by an outside monitoring service that watched their service performance over an eight month period with an actual customer in real time. Their calculated uptime average was an impressive 99.93%, with the longest recorded down time of only ten minutes. That is the kind of service that any website is looking for, and Hostgator proved their mettle. As to any factors on the minus side, the pricing plans will soon change to two year and three year pre-payment offers, which reduces the monthly charge but includes a set-up fee, which in the long run actually costs more than the one year plan. And the unlimited bandwidth and expanded space that Hostgator advertises is balanced out by a limit to CPU use and file numbers allowed. But to be fair, any website that has millions of page hits per month really shouldn't be on a shared service anyway. Limiting customers to server use is for the greater good of all their customers, and this is a common practice among shared hosting services. Finally, the customer service response is fast and dependable. Hostgator offers 24/7 toll free customer support year round, and their Ticket System usually will kick back an answer in two hours or less. Together with their available tutorials and reference database, they can rightfully claim the highest level of customer support and satisfaction. All in all, Hostgator looks to be a top contender in the web hosting game.

Uploading Websites Using FTP!

You’ve learnt all you can about web hosts and finally chosen the one you think fits your needs perfectly. You have even set the DNS for the website. But wait before you heave a sigh of relief. There is something else that needs to be taken care of.

You are now faced with the task of uploading your website to the web host. Uploading means moving files from your hard drive or any local environment to the web server.

I can tell you from experience (initial days) that unless you know how to go about it, a lot of time can be wasted.

Although, there are several ways of uploading web pages to a host, the most common is by using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software. But before uploading, once the web page creation is over, they need to be saved as .html or .htm.

Some web hosts now provide a control panel where these web pages can be uploaded. If this is not available, then an FTP program needs to be used or an HTML editor to upload files. Whatever you decide to use, it is required to check if the hosting company supports the method. Most of the free web hosts do not provide these options.

FileZilla or WS_FTP are the free FTP clients that allow you to save your web pages to your web host or the remote server.

Download the FTP client of your choice, install it and create an FTP account. After opening the FTP program, the FTP host address needs to be typed, which is usually “yourdomain.com” or sometimes “ftp.yourdomain.com.” You can check out both to see what works. Sometimes only one may work and at others, both. Next, you will have to enter the username and password that you used when you created an FTP account with your host, and finally click on the connect button to establish a connection with the web host.

In the FTP client, you will find a section for the local site with folders at the top and files at the bottom. The other section is for the remote host or the web host.

Web host help can be sought to find out where the files are to be uploaded. They usually go into the root directory, into a folder called “www” or “public_html.” All the website files need to go into this particular folder, so that they can be accessed by the public. Files can be transferred individually or as complete directories.

While all other web pages can be given any name, the main page in all directories on the site should be index.htm/.html/.php. This is the page that is displayed by default.

Files are moved with FTP in both binary and ASCII modes, and the FTP software may determine the method to use. But at times, this may need to be specified manually. The rule of the thumb is that all files that are opened with a text editor should be transferred as ASCII. Graphics, media files and compiled programs are transferred in the binary mode.

We have discussed FTP at length here as it is the most popular method of transferring files from the local area to a remote host (web host.) There are other methods that can be used. You will find that many website creation programs come with built-in transfer mode. One of the most common is the Microsoft FrontPage. But before using it, make sure your web host supports it. FrontPage takes care of uploads to the web host without any manual intervention.

There are also online site-builders that not only help create web pages, but also store them in the appropriate locations on the server. These site builders are found on the control panel in the hosting account

Web Hosting and Transfer or Bandwidth

So, you have your domain name and you have designed a website or had a website built for you, now what. Well, of course you need hosting. A lot of people want to start a business online but are not aware of some of the basics like how people are able to view or visit your website.

What is web hosting? Right now, if you have already built your website, all of those files are on your computer. People who are surfing the web don’t have access to your computer, therefore cannot find your website. Advanced users know they can turn their computer into a server where people are actually coming to their computer to view their website, however, this is not recommended and certainly not recommended for someone who is not very advanced as a computer technician.

There are computers who are set up to be servers. These are called host computers as well to simplify things. You need to upload your website files to the hosting computer so they can make it available for others to view on the web. This is the service we call web hosting.

Will just any web host do? No. This is a common misunderstanding about web hosting. All web hosts are not created equal. There are many different levels of web hosting and many different plans and packages to consider. There are also many other things you have to consider when choosing a web hosting company. Let’s go over one of the most important issues when choosing a web hosting plan to help you understand better.

A lot depends on your individual needs. Will your website have a lot of graphics and images? Will it have movies? Music downloads? Software or other downloads? Or is it a very simple and compact website that is mostly text? Do you expect a lot of traffic to your website?

The reason for all those questions is something called “bandwidth” or “transfer”. The amount of storage space a web-hosting plan offers you is usually far less important than the amount of transfer or bandwidth the web host offers you.

Every time someone visits your webpage, every file included in that webpage is downloaded from your website to their computer. In other words, from the web host’s computer to the visitor’s computer. This includes each graphic or image on the page, every icon, even the html page itself is downloaded by a user just visiting your webpage. The size of each of those files being transferred to the visitors computer is the amount of “transfer” or “bandwidth” you are using.

Let’s say you get 100 visitors per day to your website. Let’s also say that your html page is around 15k and you have 5 images on that webpage that altogether are around 50k. That means each visitor to your website is using up 65k in bandwidth every time they visit that page. Let’s also say your average visitor opens 3 pages within your website and those pages are the same size as your main page. That means each visitor uses 195k minimum and that is if they don’t keep going back to your main page.

Multiply that 195k times the 100 visitors per day you get and you are using 19,500k or a little over 19 megabytes of transfer per day. Multiply that by 30 days and you get 585,000k or 585 megabytes of “transfer” or “bandwidth” used per month.

Now if your web hosting plan allows for more bandwidth than you think you will need, then you know you are okay there. However, make sure you know upfront what the cost of going over your allotted bandwidth is. Some webhosts charge a lot for every megabyte you use over the limit they set for you in the plan you chose. It’s a good idea to pick a webhosting plan that is just one step above the one you think you need to allow for growth. You might become very popular like a rock star overnight!

Choose a Good Web Hosting Provider

Data pertaining to the websites of an individual or a business is stored by companies referred to as web hosting providers. With the explosive growth of the World Wide Web, more and more of these web hosting providers have been emerged on the scene. The question is, how can the consumer make an informed choice as to which of these companies is the best in quality and also suitable for his/her requirements? However, bearing in mind some of the most important points, you can be sure to choose a quality web hosting company.

One of the most important attributes of a quality web hosting provider is that they will make sure that they never run out of resources and infrastructure needed to give their user's websites a stable and reliable hosting service. Keeping in mind how much clientele they can accommodate, they will ensure that the number of clients they take never exceeds the total load their servers and equipment can bear. This will not be true in case of poor web hosting providers who will never care that the level of service they are providing might deteriorate by setting a higher number of web hosting accounts. A logical impact of this on the customer's website is that it remains down most of the time, so their business suffers because of that.

Another important concern while choosing a web hosting company is the level of security they are providing to their customers. This will make sure that unauthorized intruders will not be able to hack their servers in order to gain access to their customers website data. A good indication of this is that the web hosting company has servers for backing up the data. They should also give the customer access to the root directory so that they can gain access to their website without any restrictions. One of the worst things that might happen to a business is when a hacker hacks the servers of their web hosting company resulting in their data to be lost because the hosting provider does not have backup servers in place. Losing important website data is analogous to losing your online business!

Another thing that must be kept in mind is the customer service department of the web hosting provider in question and how friendly it is. The department should have highly skilled personnel which are responsible not only for the maintenance of the server thereby ensuring the integrity of data, but also for resolving any problems before they start posing a major threat to the web hosting company. The customer support department should be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and should have all the support options available including toll-free telephone support, live chat as well as ticket-based e-mail support. Try contacting the web hosting provider in question to see how speedy their response is to your query in order to gauge their concern for their clients.

The level of communication between the web hosting provider and its clients is another important aspect that must be kept in mind. A good web hosting company would always keep its customers abreast of any issues that they might have, along with posting the relevant updates to keep their clientele in touch. This is an indication of their determination to provide a high level of hosting service to their customers. On the other end of the spectrum, there are also web hosting providers that seldom care about informing their customers of any issues that they might be having. The result of this will be that the user's website might remain down every now and again without the user even knowing it. Such web hosting providers should be avoided at all costs because they don't have any commitment to their customers and are on the market only to make money.

Apart from web hosting reviews websites just like WHL, Web hosting forums are another excellent place for one to find a quality web hosting company. The forums are a means of interaction for the users of different web hosting companies that leave their positive as well as negative feedback about the hosting provider along with detailing any experiences that they had. Visiting these forums is therefore a very good idea to gauge the quality of different web hosting companies and to find which might be a good choice.

To conclude, knowing only the cost that the different hosting providers are charging and to go with the one offering web hosting at the lowest cost is not always a very good idea to selected web hosting provider. The most important thing which can never be overemphasized is certainly the level of service which should always be the measuring criterion to gauge the quality of different web hosting providers.

Paid Website Hosting Basics VS. Free Website Hosting

Web site hosting service companies on the Internet permit the user to make their web site accessible through the World Wide Web. There are huge numbers of companies that offer web space on their server for their customers and also offer Internet connectivity in general in a data center. There can be various types of web site hosting companies. The main classification is the free web site hosting and the paid web site hosting service companies.

In case of free web site hosting, the user has the right to upload his or her web site content on the server space that is provided by the web site hosting company without any cost. This type of web site hosting service is great for people who are new to to internet and plan to get familiar with web site creation and functionality of web servers. On the other hand, to get your web site uploaded on a web space that is provided by a paid web site hosting company, you need to pay the company periodic fees. The fee amount may vary from company to company. The paid web site hosting companies are best suited for professional web site owners. People who need large web space to upload their web sites and who expect a certain amount of web site visitors which is restricted on free hosting accounts to a minimum.

The revenue that the paid web hosting service companies get is through the fee that is paid to the company by the web site owners. In case of free web site hosting companies, the main source of income are the ads and banners that can be placed on their clients web pages.

The main advantage of using a free web site hosting service is that they are free of cost and hence make a perfect choice for people who are new into the business and are just looking to start out. They are perfect for people who just want to display a minimum content on the World Wide Web in small amount of web space. The other advantage of using the free web site hosting service is that most of these companies provide integrated, easy tools to upload the pages on to the hosting account. They do this realizing the fact that the free web site hosting services are generally utilized by the newbies.

There are also certain disadvantages of using the free web site hosting services. When using the free web site hosting service, you are forced to place the ads and banners by the web site hosting company on your web pages. Also the revenue that is obtained by the ads goes to the web site company. In case of paid web site hosting service, ads and banners placed on your web site are according to your will and the revenue of the banners and ads placed on your web site goes in your pocket. Also in some case of free web site hosting, the domain name of your web site starts with the web site hosting company name followed by your web site name. This is not the case of paid web site hosting service. You get a unique web site domain. The web space provided by free web site hosting service is limited whereas in case of paid web site hosting service you can buy the web space according to your requirements.
